FootGolf makes Northern Michigan's Sunrise Side Debut
Footgolf combines the popular sports of soccer and golf. To play FootGolf, athletes use #5 soccer balls on a traditional golf course with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. The Springport Hills Footgolf Course has 18 holes built within the original nine holes and is designed to be able to play both traditional golf and FootGolf simultaneously.
The sport is played in the traditional format of up to four players per group with FootGolfers either walking the course or using golf carts. Holes are roughly half the distance of a regular golf hole. While the soccer ball doesn’t travel as far in the air as a golf ball, it will roll much farther in the fairways. FootGolf as a game is played throughout the world in many different forms, but as a sport it is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the exclusive member of the FIFG and governing body for the sport of FootGolf in the United States. The AFGL is organizing tournaments throughout the U.S. and working with golf courses to bring FootGolf to their clubs as another avenue for revenue and to develop the game further.
